Never too late to get used to it...

Yeah that's normal, sometimes actual IRC servers lose connection to the rest of the network and it looks like people are leaving en masse, that's called a network split or netsplit for short.

Yeah, and not only on efnet, I've used freenode and rizon a bunch in the past and they also get quite a few netsplits. It's just how the internet works really but few things maintain a permanent tcp connection which is why it's more noticeable on irc.

Dream of Omnimaga

EFnet tends to have more netsplit overall, though, from what I often hear, but I don't know how accurate it is. The TI community has been on EFnet for so long, though, that netsplit pretty much became part of our culture.

It's not more often on efnet than anywhere else, the only bad thing about it is that efnet has no services so it's possible to ride a netsplit to take a channel over. I have some amount of protection enabled in eggdrop for that (bitch mode) but of course it's not 100% bullet proof.

Dream of Omnimaga

Actually, netsplits have some minimal protections on EFnet. It just depends of how long it lasts. If it's a short metsplit, then modes are reset back to prior the split and sometimes Chanfix will join as well.

Yeah when a server is split is also usually prevents anyone from joining the channel so they don't get ops for creating it (probably only when it's empty). It can still happen but it should be mitigated for the most part.

Yuki

Yeah, IRC server sofware have various methods to mitigate this, some check the channel creation timestamp, others just block access. It more or less works.

@Streetwalrus and @Juju by the way, logs are no longer reachable since the past week or so.

Also, since the last year or so, the Back button on the logs page stopped working. I think both are related to SSL. Also, the logs theme being missing is probably because it fetches it from the wrong URL.
