This is just random but do any of you have different hobbies outside of calculator programming or stuff to do with computers?
I participate in riding my ripstik and archery
Also where do you keep your calculators?!
I ask because I keep my Ti-84 in my pocket from the time I wake up to the time I go to bed lol :P
I mostly do gaming and programming :) sometimes i play with some electronics or build some awesome lego robot with my little bother. And i only have a ti 84+
I meant where do you store your calcs :). Yeah that is cool though I want to get into robotics in high school!
Ooh, mostly in my bag or on my desk :P

I didn't know that existed... O.O
Just kidding, I mostly created music and used to sell it for a while (I still do some songs but not as many as before) and I occasionally play retro games. I also built a somewhat large video game collection over the last decade or so. Also, every now and then, I attend metal and punk music concerts, ice hockey events and hang out with friends, often to play games and party. Otherwise I am often on Youtube listening to weird songs, VGM and visit some random sports websites.
The calcs I use the least are stored behind my computer monitor. The rest are easily reachable and visible to my left.
lol. sounds like me everyday :) (kind of with out the music)
My hobbies includes social network browsing, website making, reading documentation and hacking whatever comes to my hands. Programming is pretty fun xD Oh, also hanging out with friends when I can, it's always fun.
I play trumpet and chess, and swim. And reading "Why Software Sucks" occasionally.
My 83+ and V200 are on my "storage" desk for electronics, and my CSE is in my backpack.

So Codehunt doesn't count then :P
I'm trying to struggle with starting with electronics, befor I got my wires, I did not even know how a breadboard worked...
If more people decide to do some electronics stuff we could maybe have a topic for electronics help too :)
And yeah i too like to do something with my friends once in a while, though school keeps us busy enough most
of the time (i have 2 presentations today and 1 paper, and a paper tomorrow <_<)
I I need help, I'll open a topic for that. Don't worry, I'm old enough to know what to do! :p
I should draw how I should plug my components to not forget them.

That's what the hardware section is for :). I was debating about adding gaming and general, unspecific programming discussion in it so that the off-topic section isn't cluttered, but the hardware section was intended to be about creation like the 5 other sections there, so I'm unsure yet.

^Right! <_<
I am on an FRC team, which takes up most of my time. I keep my calcs in my basement, except for about 4 which are in some combination of my jacket pockets and my backpack.
You bring 4 calcs at school? O.O Over here the max I brought there was 2 and even then I tried to make sure as few people as possible know in case it gives incentives for attacking me to rob them from me or something.
Is it really that bad where you live? The only thing that gets stolen here are some unattended phone's, but i haven't heard of someone
getting robbed. and if they did they wouldn't want your calc, i mean everyone has a smartphone now.
That is why I have mine in my front left pocket :P
And I sadly have no phone :(
:-\ well allmost everyone then
Yeah I am in eighth grade so I am on the border of my parents letting me and not but anyways I really don't mind :P

In schools yes. Otherwise it's not close to that bad. I can wander alone at night safely for the most part.

Lol (I would use my calc because I carry it around)
I dabble with electronics and such. I also mess around with making music (never really got anywhere though).
I would like to get into electronics but when I start I say grrrr its not working lets go play with redstone in Minecraft :P
The issue with electronics is you need to be good with your hands and some manual labor to do it, because otherwise messing around with such small cables without accidentally tearing stuff apart in your way will be incredibly hard and frustrating.
If only my dad's soldering iron wouldn't suck (though i have a (small) breadboard)
I like listening to DJ Omnimagas music while not playing Pokemon on my nspire

Haha awesome one Cumred. XD
It fits perfectly xD
Quite (-_(//));
I usually keep two calcs in my bag, my g35+ and my 85+ and the rest lay on my desktop PC. I have too mulany calcs to let's them all in my bag (and the Nspire is sometimes painful to charge)
When I went to school, there was a clothing fashion involving jeans that had oversized pockets and most teenagers weared their clothes one or two sizes higher. The result is that a TI-83+ would fit perfectly in my pockets and I even managed to fit two calcs in there once.
Nowadays, pockets are slightly smaller so fitting one calc in there is harder, but it's still possible, unlike in the mid 90's where jeans pockets were less than 6cm deep. >.<
I don't really want to have my calc in my pockets anyway, my bag is good enough :P
Haha I used to carry my 84+ in my pockets. Good old hgihschool days. I didn't even have a phone yet. :P

When I was in hi school, only like 2 student per class had a phone and all phones only allowed calling (and maybe texting using numpad). This was also when cellphones started becoming ultra small for a while. :P And Facebook didn't even exist yet.
The good old times. :P
Funny, i guess i'm from the next generation then :P I have a phone (HTC One S) which i've got for like
2 years, but some people can't keep their phones intact for a year (like my sister <_<).
Well, I'm only 18, high school was only two years ago. :P
Maybe it's just different from where you live though
No, I'm the one who was different. :P My parents didn't want me to have a phone until like second year high school when I finally convinced them. I was 16.

Hehe, having calcs everywhere can be cool for us. I had for a time a small bag where I put all my important things like phone or paper. I succeed into fitting the 84+ inside, so my phone went back to my pockets. :p

My calcs are actually wherever I am. They don't fit in my few pockets. :P
Everyone then keep their calcs into pockets here?
I'm glad I could put my calcs in my pocket, because most people who put it in their pencil case would often leave them unnatended while asking questions to the teacher at his desk, then when they came back, their calc was gone and they didn't notice until a while after the class ended. It was also a bad idea to leave them in your school locker unless you made sure nobody notices, because I heard stories about people just cutting the lock while you're gone then taking anything of value from your locker. In my pants at least the calcs were safe except maybe from rainstorms.
Never heard of stolen calcs in my school... ???
Me neither, also i keep mine in my bag :)
I keep mine in my bag, or sweatshirt pocket.
Mine are in my closet now :P
You lock them in the closet? How? *.*
I keep mine on my bureau or in my bag mostly when i'm at home
For the most part, if I'm not working, programming, sleeping, or drinking chocolate milk, I'm playing Unreal Tournament 2004. I do a fair bit of amateur radio and shortwave/utility listening (https://soundcloud.com/cvsoft/).
Most of my calculators are scattered across the floor in my room; they're pretty safe there, and I don't have a whole lot of storage space for them. My ROM 4* TI-82 usually stays on my desk. My TI-89 Titanium is handy enough to stay in my backpack, along with my older TI-83. I keep a TI-81 on my desk and bedside table, they're handy for quick calculations.
Well when I am not working/programming/eating/sleeping, I usually do some sport (jogging mostly), and play theater with an association. Pretty much funny :P
Also, almost all my calc are on my desk, mainly because calc were forbidden at my exam, and there is no point to bring them at school.
I have all my calcs on my desk next to my bed except the one that I program or use at school (my Prime right now) goes in my pocket :P.
I am getting into airsoft and next year in highschool I am doing cross country.

Maybe they can overlcok it too while they're at it. That makes me think, someone in my class had a game on his calc that enabled test mode (where the screen turns blue). It was quite scary actually since they didn't know it's a bad thing. I blame the maker though <_<
Tho there is test saftey mode on the CSE that makes the status bar blue.
I think thats something else :P
Yeah, I know, DJ helped me with that a while ago. Also, why would a game have that isnt it bad for the calc?
yeah thats what i thought too
At school I stop people from running with calcs in their hand saying you must respect your phone's ancestors :P
lol
Early this school year, someone at my school said that my calc was ancient history. We got in to ""political"conflict (He said Hitler was his homie soo....) and ended up trying to sabotage each other at every chance (well, I did)

Learn a new language

Create a new, better language from HP PPL.
Oh yeah, and cumred, what happended to you language?
Still in developement. I recently moven from Java to C for the VM. I wanted to make the VM for z80 in C too, but it has to be a flash app.
SDCC/KCC don't really support floats (why i initially wanted to write it in C) and since the heap (space for variables) is packed with the app, all variables get erased
when an app-page is switched (and thus when i make a bcall, which means no disp's etc). So if i want to make it for z80 i probably need to do it in asm, which includes writing my own heap malloc/realloc and float routines (though i might be able to find some). I don't know if its possible to compile C for the prime, but you might be able to make a VM for the prime if you want.

Nice!
But really, you should just forget the floats on the z80 platform.
And also, why don't you use Axe for the z80 version?
It has malloc builtin and allows compiling it to a flash app.
I don't think axe has malloc build in o.o.. Also maybe i should just drop an error. anyway i will do pc first :P

No it has!
I already used it!
O.O what are the commands then?
Just Buffer(size) > A
and A then contains your pointer to the allocated space in ram
Not exactly. This command isn't a malloc, it just create a free space inside program space. For app, it is only read-only since it is in ROM.
The real axe malloc is more this :
GetCalc("tmpMALLOC",size)->A
creating a temporary variable inside RAM, and deleting at exit automatically :P

That would probably really slow since it uses TI routines <_<
Well, Cumred, why don't you build it for KnightOS then?
KCC is based on SDCC, and thus it still packs the heap with the program. I could maybe make a malloc/callc/realloc/free axiom though (i might do this anyway), but i'll probably still end up using it for a z80 program. But that's okay. Also z80 is a little bit more attractive for this since i can spread my project over multiple files and still develop op PC :P
Who needs hobbies when you have friends, right guys!?
which is why I have hobbies
My only calculator, a TI Nspire CX, stays in my backpack most of the time. If I go anywhere, though, I bring it with me and stick it in my pocket.
My hobbies are biking, frisbee, frisbee while biking, programming, electronics, linux, calcs (duh), and KSP.
My Nspire CX CAS and one of my TI-84+ SE's stay in my pockets all the time, the rest stay on the floor/on my desk in my room.

It might have been an old Ion game that only ran on OS 1.12 or lower. I noticed that those games sometimes break in newer versions.
Also, 2006 BASIC games that used xLIB sometimes used special effects called bluescale, which involved toggling test mode rapidly, which resulted into a less damaging, but still not very safe blue screen if the effect ran for a long while. It only worked on the 15 MHz models, because on those, making contrast go from higher values to very low, nearly invisible values instantly instead of gradually caused the screen to turn blue for a split second. The same thing happened in MirageOS when turning the calc OFF.
Quote from: DarkestEx on June 14, 2015, 03:17:56 PM
Well, Cumred, why don't you build it for KnightOS then?
I personally recommend against making a TI-83+/84+ program KOS-only, though. It's best to make it cross-compatible with the TI-OS too, because very few people will be able to use it.
We need a walrus equivalent of Unidan.
As a student, my calculators stay mainly in my bag but as it is now holidays I'm gonna be playing and/or coding with my Prime.
Apart for gaming and coding, I like to play badminton. :)
cool to hear you plan to do some HP Prime dev soon. I need to get back into it at one point.

Oh, and hobbies. I play soccer, like to watch and play hockey, and like to take computers apart.
like to program (obviously), game and occasionally do some hardware stuff like building laser spirographs :P

I have the same problem with every Casio calc I own that came out prior the Graph 85/Casio FX-9860G. Most requires a serial port and one that I got came with an used USB to I/O cable which seems to have been made up and it didn't work.
I can always send programs between my calcs, but if I send a CFX program to the 9860G, then all color commands get changed to @. I don't know if that happens with the PRIZM since it has color support too, but the PRIZM lacks the color Orange, while the CFX lacks Magenta, Red, Yellow and Black.

if I make five of those...
Five people running at you with guns that shoot ~10 rounds per second would be quite scary O.O

Yeah, but you could add more tubes for air storage or even have some in a back pack
