It was about time :D, the last one was in 2008 lol. Anyway I listened to this song and it's amazing. It totally reminds me of Battery and Damage Inc. Glad they still do trash metal stuff :)

Now the question, though: How the hell do you buy a new Metallica album in Quebec City and Montreal? Because it's gonna sell out in minutes for sure. >.< (I mean, IMAX over here still had Through the Never showtimes as late as 2015 despite the movie failing at box office everywhere else. Quebec City IMAX theater alone made 10% of the movies ticket sales for North America for 2013)

I already posted about it in another thread, but yeh, that sounds really amazing. Can't wait for the full album.

Wow someone redid a small portion of Hardwired but using the sound of their first five albums. It's a video with five different song snippets and my favorites are Ride the Lightning and Masters of Puppets. Imagine if Metallica did a recording of that song using their original drums and mixing O.O

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yE2rgWFAO2A

I am curious about how it would have sounded like in Load, Reload, Coca-cola can and Death Magnetic style, though. Or even Lulu.

ALso I seriously hope HMV doesn't mess up this release. In Quebec City they really need to stock up as high as they can on CDs.

Load and Reload are quite similar to the black album in style, the song is already in Death Magnetic style too (and the album is supposed to be a sequel to it).

Ah ok. I noticed they were kinda similar, mixing-wise, but I also thought RTL and MOP were similar to each others so I was kinda surprised at hearing the differences. Also I disagree about Death Magnetic, because in order to sound like Death Magnetic they would have to open the song in Audacity and increase its volume until clipping happens, then save as 96 kbps MP3. :P

I agree, I can't wait for the album. I hope the fast song wasn't just a tease and that the rest won't be like Load lol. It's my 3rd least favorite albums from them, behind St-Anger (although if it wasn't for the snare I might like it more) and Lulu. I like Reload, though, so I wouldn't mind if they went with that style. I also really hope the final mixing won't be the same as Death Magnetic.

Awesome song :O. The only worry I have is that the kickdrum sounds similar to Death Magnetic. I hope the mixing won't end up being the same as DM. At least this version sounds clean per Youtube standard. Metallica seems to be back to their roots ^.^

I love Death Magnetic, at first I couldn't hear the problems in the official album then I listened to a fan remaster which sounds amazing. Definitely one of my favorite albums.

Well, I know the fashion for the last few years goes for really loud sound mastering. One of my teachers made a case against letting your sound clip past 0 dB (to the point the soundwave would nearly look like a filled rectangle and you don't wan't that), I hope Metallica won't mess up this time. But you never know.
Title: Re: HARDWIRED... TO SELF-DESTRUCT
Post by: novenary on September 29, 2016, 11:33:50 AM
Well to be fair it's not directly their fault, they weren't there to oversee the mastering.
Title: Re: HARDWIRED... TO SELF-DESTRUCT
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on September 29, 2016, 08:08:50 PM
Yeah true. I wonder if they can have influence, though? After all, don't they run their own label?
Title: Re: HARDWIRED... TO SELF-DESTRUCT
Post by: novenary on September 29, 2016, 08:12:14 PM
That shouldn't matter, the artists have their say in it.
Title: Re: HARDWIRED... TO SELF-DESTRUCT
Post by: Yuki on September 29, 2016, 08:18:24 PM
Well yeah, ultimately it depends of the guy who does the mastering. Sometimes the artists don't want to get in his way, sometimes it's the complete opposite. Reminds me of ...And Justice for All who had no bass.

Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on September 29, 2016, 09:52:01 PM
In any case, if I was an artist and was not too worried about money, if a label or masterer wanted to decide how my stuff sounds like then I would switch <_<

Well, for metallica that's probably true but if I were just starting out I'd leave mastering to a professional. @Streetwalrus has an example of what happens if your mix is c.

Oh yeah, haha. I found a power/heavy metal album a few days ago by a (very unkown) French band, the mix is really crappy and combined with the lack of experience from the band members it makes the whole thing pretty mediocre even though there is some potential. You should be able to find some of it on youtube, the band is Arés and the album title is About Metal.

Listen to Tricky Beans - Blackout for an example of bad mixing XD (they're now called Sonata Arctica)

why does he stab his drums at the end it doesn't seem very professional. i would say he doesn't know what he's doing

It's Lars, such things are to be expected. I think the very tight drumming during the song serves as a testimony for his drumming.

It's great. My favorite so far is still Moth into Flame, but the album is very promising. Hype! :D

i think he just got lucky, and at the end he was trying his hardest to play the drums correctly

Yeah, it's unlisted on YouTube, but it's on their Facebook page.

Also you can probably find the entire album already on the internets.

Ah OK. I'm on my phone and the mobile site doesn't show that a video is unlisted.

Awesome song. THanks for sharing. I might buy the album tomorrow evening if it's still in stock (I heard a worker at HMV say they will have 150 copies or so).

Also some people say that this new album will be a mix of both the old and new metallica stuff, but so far it seems that aside from this song, most shared songs are more like the old than DM was. Either way I can't wait to get a copy :)
Title: Re: HARDWIRED... TO SELF-DESTRUCT
Post by: novenary on November 17, 2016, 05:27:51 PM
It's something between Death Magnetic and their 90s stuff it seems.
Title: Re: HARDWIRED... TO SELF-DESTRUCT
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on November 17, 2016, 05:34:29 PM
I would say more their 80's stuff than Death Magnetic. The DM feel comes from the mixing overall I think. This new album sounds even closer to the 80's stuff but it definitively has influences from their 90's stuff too. Maybe they took less inspiration from Load and instead used Black album and Reload? Also I heard that one song will sound inspired from St Anger (perhaps not the drums?).

Also I just saw Juju shared another song on the previous page (the beginning reminds me a bit of some Ride the Lightning material). But they also posted Confusion:

Well I listen to a remixed version of Death Magnetic, it's more than just the mixing that makes the album tick. It's very different from their 80s stuff.
Title: Re: HARDWIRED... TO SELF-DESTRUCT
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on November 17, 2016, 05:50:47 PM
Yeah true. They tried with DM to go back to their roots, but it didn't work (well, it worked in the way that the result sounds good, but it's not even close to their actual roots). Seems like this time around they had more success, from the songs I heard so far.

I hope the mixing in the album won't have clipping like in DM.

Wow they really posted the entire album on their channel? I was gonna say at first I hoped you didn't post illegal download links, then I saw Youtube links so I figured, well... fine, but now I see it's from MetallicaTV. Even better.

Gonna listen soon :) Now that makes me wish HMV or Renaud Bray over here were located outside shopping malls, because I bet they would have opened at 12 AM like some stores do during big game launches. Oh well, there's tomorrow :P

I'm impressed, it's really good. Not as good as remastered Death Magnetic, but overall it's a great album. Pretty much a mashup of everything they've done so far. I love it.

I got my copy during dinner break. Wo :walrii: ohoo!

EDIT: Guys, my copy I got came with three CD's O.O (including Lords of Summer). It has about a dozen of recordings of either cover songs or live performances. Awesome.

EDIT: I have good news! The clipping problem seen in Death Magnetic is gone from this album. Or at least, it's nowhere close to as severe. Now it's on-par with Beyond Magnetic EP in terms of sound quality. Death Magnetic sound quality was just an absolute disaster.
