Title: Play SNES and Sega Genesis games on your calculator!
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on September 17, 2015, 07:23:54 AM
For years, various console emulators were available for the TI-Nspire: NESpire (Nintendo Entertainment System), gbc4nspire (Game Boy and Game Boy Color), gpSP-Nspire (Game Boy Advance) and more. However, many people had been wondering if, one day, the two most popular 16-bit gaming consoles would ever be emulated on the TI-Nspire or other calculators.

Several days ago, their dream finally came true. Gameblabla, author of many SDL ports for the TI-Nspire, has ported PocketSNES (Super Nintendo) and PicoDrive (Sega Genesis) to that calculator, so now you can finally play Super Mario Kart, Mega Man X, Hong Kong '97, Zelda: A Link to the Past, Sonic the Hedgehog, Streets of Rage and many other Nintendo or Sega games!

In order to play SNES games on your TI-Nspire CX, you need Ndless 3.1, 3.6 or 3.9. You also need ROMs, but you have to find them yourselves or dump them from your game cartridges. ROMs must be renamed to .tns files (for example, instead of marioworld.smc, it has to be marioworld.smc.tns), else they won't send. You also obviously need PocketSNES. Once you have sent everything to your calculator using your favorite TI-Nspire linking software, launch PicoDrive then choose a valid ROM file from the list.

In order to play Sega Genesis or Sega Mega Drive games on your TI-Nspire CX, you also need Ndless and ROMs, the latter being found on Google or dumped, as usual. ROMs must be renamed to .tns files (for example, instead of sonic.md, it has to be sonic.md.tns), else they won't send. You also obviously need PicoDrive. After sending your required files to your TI-Nspire CX, launch PicoDrive then choose a valid ROM file from the list.

Now enjoy your favorite classics on your TI-Nspire. :)

Did anybody test PicoDrive ?
Could you name me any working ROM ?

Every ROM I've tried so far just makes the calculator reboot after the "Starting emulation" message.
