Aaaand I guess it's time for another instance of our fortnightly contest! This time... make a Hello World program. Yeah, sound boring, it's pretty much the first thing you do when you learn a new programming language, but this time you must include a twist: make it as interesting and creative as possible. Not just the simple, print "Hello World!" and exit, but turn it up to 11. We want highly advanced graphics and CPU utilization to the max, maybe even explosions and John Cena's theme blaring through the link port, well maybe not, but it should print "Hello World!" by any means and be creatively interesting. And while we're at it, why not using a programming language or a library you're not familiar with? As I said, it should be pretty much one of the first programs you write in a new programming language.
The rules are the same as usual, the project should be started after I posted this, no sharing before the contest ends next Monday at 11:59pm Eastern Time, send your submission to me by PM or by email at
[email protected], I'll judge the entries next week, etc. Have fun!
Now theres a good contesf idea :P
Though i never use hello world. Its always "Test" or similar for me :P
Are there any size constraints?
Computer or calculator? Which platforms do _you_ offer? :P

Not this time.

I can mostly run everything a computer can run, and for calculators, I have my 83+ emu and my LEGO Mindstorms EV3 brick (my Prizm is pretty far in my boxes), otherwise I guess you can ask before.
Is Windows with a 1080p monitor possible?

Just found my laptop with Windows on it, so yes. Bonus if it works in Wine.
hmm... I can make some psychedelic things on the cse.... :P
It probably depends if the CSE is allowed, but if it does then just make sure to not flash the entire screen between teal and red like Pokémon Episode 38 >.<
If you want to help DJ it would be allowed. Otherwise you could probably send a video.
I could always test it, although I would need a longer judging period since I am not always available at the same times every week.
Can the date be set back by any chance cause I don't hae a lot of time right now to do anything, and I don't have many ideas(well I have one but I am not sure I will be able to accomplish it). I have 3 days off of school next week, and I would most likely be able to make something in that time(btw is Nspire allowed?), unless, of course, I don't succeed in my current idea and can't come up with another one.
I don't know if
@Juju had plans for that but it might be a good idea if most people have exams. Maybe have the contests last 10 days and the judging last during the last 4 days.
How many entries so far, by the way?

I'm almost done, I'll probably send it in somewhere
tomorrow.
EDIT: right now*
EDIT 2: sent
Awesome I just started PHP a few days ago so I will enter but don't expect allot :P
Well, I've officially given up on this :(. I failed :(. Not sure how to make a custom text made up of shapes, as I don't knwo what to do otherwise.
Does it really have to be made of shapes? Couldn't it just be normal text but formated with colors and stuff, with animations making it move?
Well, I took your suggestion, and I am almost done with my code. How do I submit it? Because I only have 15 minutes.
E-mail it to
[email protected] , as the first post says.

Anything works.
Also, since I'm busy with a project right now, the deadline will not be a hard one. (Never been really hard, anyway.)
It would be nice to know when it really ends, though, else people will get caught off-guard.
Oh, it hasn't ended yet? Well thats nice. I can do some jiggery xLIBC and finish up.
Just Submitted!
I can share a video of it, right?

Your video file doesn't work. Mind posting an avi or wmv instead? Or maybe a GIF.
Works fine for me.
In my browser it just remains dark and when double-clicking on my computer it does nothing at all. Mind telling me what software you used to open it? (if Windows-compatible)
Google Chrome. What software did you tried?
Doesn't work on safari/chrome on iOS devices either.

Might as well share a screenshot too.

That looks interesting. What does the buttons do?
I don't think we can get it that far in this time, but maybe we can get our new programming language to do a "Hello World", before the deadline...

Random stuff, ranging from activating those colors to john cena theme (as 'suggested' by Juju)
@Unicorn could you make your video Windows 7 compatible? I just tried it in VLC Media Player and QuickTime Player and neither can play it. The former shows a gray box and the latter remains black.
Huh. I'll upload it to youtube, in that case.
@DJ Omnimaga : Here it is! Hello World (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=brwZQVYE4TY&feature=youtu.be)
Thanks. THis seems interesting. I can't wait to try it to figure out how it works more, though. :P
This is when I'd post a contest #4 by now, but I think I'm gonna delay it slightly due to being busy, plus a trip to Montréal, like how I kinda delayed the deadline. Submissions are definitely closed by now, though and I'll judge the entries when I can.
Good luck to all contestants! :)
I know I(almost definately) didn't win, because I just have hello world moving along the screen.
Just wondering, are the results going to be in anytime soon? Sorry for my terrible inpatience.

I'm wondering too :P
Hey Unicorn glad to see you back ;)

In 2017. :P
Or when
@Juju stops making ponies videos :P
Indeed. When you least expect it...
This one's dead, isn't it xD? It's almost a month old!
Yeah that's what I feared. /me pokes
@Juju
Results are in!
@Unicorn: 88
@brentmaas: 87
@semiprocoder: 81
Congratulations!
It was about time juju :P (I think CWick Contest 4 should wait until you have more free time to judge entries x.x), but congrats to participants. And wow, the results were so close.
Where can we download the entries?
indeed, great job to the participants, and I'm really surprised how close it was. I'll post a download to my eventually, in like a few days.
