The Mysterious Cities of Gold season 3 is up now. They're heading towards Japan this time around to find the 3rd city of gold. Also they reverted back to a main song theme similar to the original (pitched exactly like it, and the style is similar to the original)

I won't enter into details, tho, because explaining too much the first episode intro will spoil the ending of the season 2. However, to sum up the first episode, basically, the golden condor goes into self-pilot mode again (which means it's directing them near the next city of gold like the last two times). However, they land on a cliff and soon after they arrive, an earthquake causes the cliff to collapse with the condor on it. Also there's a volcano island in front of where they land (probably what caused the earthquake?) so I wonder if that might be where the city of gold is located...

Anyway now the condor is underwater. And Japanese people don't seem to like strangers back then but again Mendoza wasn't very diplomatic <_<

EDIT: OMG the music is epic (as in more than season 2, and a lot of the tracks are reminsicent of the original season

So I'm done watching MCoG season 3 and can't wait for season 4 already.

I have to say season 3 is better than season 2. It seems a bit closer in overall style to the original 1982 season, especially music-wise. The only gripe I have is that near the start it seemed a little too fast-paced at times (I think they only stay in the 4th city of gold for one half of an episode), but overall I liked the result.

I won't spoil too much, but basically, they're heading to Japan to find the 3rd city of "gold", which is underwater, to save Esteban's father who was captured. During this season they learn the truth about Ambrosius (the guy who built the airship in the previous season, although for people who watched season 2, I think it was pretty clear already) and after saving Esteban's father the kids (and later their spanish friends, who initially wanted to go back to Spain but then changed their minds) head for the 4th city of gold and realize they must prevent the Mu empire secrets and the cities of gold from falling under the wrong hands. Like in season 1 and 2, once someone pick up an object or treasure from a city of gold, that city shuts itself down and they must escape before being trapped. I also felt that the main characters overall are closer to each others, even the spanish men who used to only think of becoming rich.

In the first season, they traveled to Central and South America. In the second season they traveled to China and now they just traveled to Japan, India and the Middle-East. With a city of gold located in Central America, China, Japan and Middle East, that makes me curious about where the 5th, 6th and 7th ones are (Antarctica? Greenland? Siberia? Alaska? Center of Atlantic Ocean?)

inb4 the Moon or Mars, who knows?

I doubt they'll leave Earth, but we never know. I think all 7 cities of "Gold" are on Earth in the series.

In the event where Atlantis and Mu cooperated together when they were built, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a second underwater City of Gold located around Atlantis in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Otherwise, that location can probably be ruled out. Antactica's only issue is that the city of gold would probably be only possible to visit for about 6 months a year, because the great Condor requires sun light in order to fly. Same for Alaska, Norway or Siberia to a lesser extent.

It would be funny if the last one was located under Barcelone, where Esteban now lives XD. As for the Moon, I think it depends if Mu empire came from space or if they managed to go to space in a distant past or if they made a collab with Atlantis and that Atlantis people managed to go to space or came from there. Also space is a possibility since the cities of gold were built in case of a giant cataclysm.

Also an Atlantis collab is entirely possible because:

In season 2, it's revealed that Esteban is descendant from Atlantis
In season 3, it's revealed that Zia is descendant of Mu Empire, just like Tao.

Despite Tao and Zia being the only two so far whose origins are from the people of Mu, it's Esteban and Zia who inherited the title of Chosen and the two sun pendants.

EDIT: Fun fact: All 4 cities of gold discovered so far are at the same latitude or close. Could this mean that the three remaining ones are on the same line or that the 7th one is in Antartica or the North Pole, forming a pyramid when connecting each cities via lines?

Really ? And what is cooler than soccer matches with killer techniques, giant god spirits, aliens and armors ? :p

Mutant League Hockey? :P That Sega Genesis/Mega Drive game was cool :D

Also Super Mario Strikers :P

That said I can't judge if those are better or not because I never watched those sports anime.

Not yet sadly. And I didn't know that. I am glad that some old series get rebooted. Eg MCoG got rebooted with a 2nd season 30 years after the first season first aired.
u/GalacticPirate December 13, 2016, 10:45:27 PM
Actually I meant 10 years in the anime, not in real life :walrii:

u/GalacticPirate December 14, 2016, 10:33:19 AM
No, actually Ianzuma Eleven is very recent (began in 2008) BTW it was released with a series of games for DS and 3DS :p
