Wait do I see frets up to 19? I'm not sure if my guitar even has that many o.o
Also, yeah measures 28 and 29 look tough :o

Most electric guitars go up to 22 (that's the minimum), while some can go up to 33. I have a 22-frets 6-strings and a 27-frets 7-strings.

(@matref: I deleted your double post ^^)
Ah okay, I have an acoustic and it only goes up to 19 and even then the 19th fret is cut out for the hole so I can only use it for both E strings :P

Mine has 24 frets, fairly standard for a guitar aimed at metal

That's definitively something I need to check if I ever buy a guitar lol. I would hate to be limited in any way if I spend hundreds of dollars on a music instrument XD

Most standard guitars have 21 frets, more specialized and fancy guitars have more. Mine has 21, which is pretty much the minimum standard. AFAIK, it's not something you should look for unless you really need it. Read, you're the guitarist of a band like Metallica, you're a minimum experienced, enough to own several guitars and you want to do some pretty wicked riffs in the high octaves. (For the record, the ukulele I have here have 12 frets and 4 strings, but they're made to be fairly small.)

If you don't have enough octaves available, can you use your ampli or a pedal to adjust the sound to move one octave range up/down?

It is possible with a pedal, but it doesn't sound that great. That Dream Theater song goes up into the 23s by the way.

I'd suggest going with 24 frets.

Dream of Omnimaga

Ok I see. Thanks for the tips. I hope my price range won't prevent me from going above 23 frets, although I guess I can always go to the pawn shop nearby.

My advice: Get a used one.

I got a Jackson Kelly KE3 (24 frets) for €180 used (it retailed for about €700) in great state. I just had to clean it and replace the strings. Only thing that's wrong with it is that the tremolo is unstable, but I never use it anyway.

matrefeytontias

You mean vibrato right ? The vibrato is the bar on the right and tremolo is an effect that makes your sound sound choppy.

For some reason, things like Floyd Roses are often called tremolos, or trems. I'm not sure why, because indeed "tremolo" is a whole other effect....
