I have 4 android phones.
#1 - DInc - needs reflashed and new LCD
#2 - EVO - replaced the USB port with a hot air gun which worked excellently
#3 - TB - needs new mobo which I'll buy on ebay
#4 - Droid - seems to have a faulty digitizer
I'm okay with hw repair issues, but for some reason, I can't fix sw related things! So in this case I really need help with the DInc (HTC Droid Incredible), I deleted the OS without making a backup and now can't get it back. Here is a picture of it's boot screen with it's info: (http://img.codewalr.us/IMG_7896.JPG)
I've tried connecting it to a computer and doing RUU but the computer generally won't recognize it being there. I tried using an SD card but it told me some error message I don't remember.
Have you got a custom recovery installed?
and how do you connect to your PC, via ADB?
Yes and yes.
And adb devices doesn't return anything?
Right, it only says "List of devices attached". (I've pretty sure the software computerside is good cause it works with other phones).
But you can boot into recovery? If so try another sd and flashing from recovery
Using an SD card, I get:
Loading... [PB31IMG.zip]
<screen clears>
Checking... [PB31IMG.zip]
<screen clears>
Main Version is older!
Update FAIL!
Do you want to reboot your device...?
<VOL UP> Yes
<VOL DOWN> No
You might be able to install CyanogenMod on it. The wiki has extensive documentation on how to do this. Fyi running an ruu needs the phone to be booted in a special mode. Select fastboot mode then run fastboot oem rebootRUU on the computer.
Okay, trying that - I'll post here if I get an error and we'll see if it succeeds.
I am hoping that you didn't brick your phone for good. >.<
Okay, well I guess that's that! In a good way. I downloaded the ROM, chucked it onto the SD card, ran recovery and installed zip, waited about two minutes and rebooted, and to my surprise it booted into cyanogenmod 7 and ran without any issues! It's better than stock for me anyway so thanks for the suggestion, street!
Awesome to hear it works! :D Any other issues so far, by the way? And how fast is it?
Great to hear and glad I could help ! :walrii:
@DJ Omnimaga Well, no, suprisingly there hasn't been a single issue, all has been sunshine and roses after I installed Cyanogen, even exemplary battery life! And I haven't had any complaints about operational speed either, it seems as snappy as a 2010 Android device can be, if you're not trying to run KitKat and then run the latest version of minecraft with maxed settings or whatever.
Here's a picture of when it first booted in all it's blueness (damaged LCD, it's replacement is in the mail):

Awesome. Btw how much does a replacement LCD cost?

For something this old, $8.
Aah good, I thought it was around $100-300.

Heh, that's about the rate for an iPhone 6, but even then its including the digitizer whereas this is just the LCD. Age makes a great difference in phones!
Yeah for my nexus 4 the replacement screen cost like $150 which is like, half the price of the phone. >.>

Yeah its sad but true $8 is half the price of the Incredible too - it is a $20 max phone, like the Droid Eris or Motorola Droid. So many phones that cost $199 in 2010... I mean I was there, and that time is gone... :-|

I have the same problem with computer replacement parts. It's even worse when you are not tech-savy enough to repair it yourself and bring your device to a store to get it repaired. At the local Staples, just replacing a graphic card and power supply in a computer costs as much as a low end computer that is brand new. I assumed that some phone screen replacements would also be pricey due to those components being so small and more advanced.
Well when I need to replace parts I buy newer ones anyway if it's for a pc. :P So it justifies the cost.
Indeed, but in my case buying computer parts often mean they come from different companies, so the shipping costs add up fast since it's impossible to combine shipping. As a result, buying pieces separately often costs more than buying a pre-built computer (in USA it's the opposite since most parts are manufactured there and thus, reduce shipping costs) and on top of that with a pre-built computer you get a Windows license and most stuff is pre-installed. You often get stuck with lots of crappy bloatware that you can't remove, though.
Hmmm, most parts are actually made in china. :P
Oh right, but I think they come via USA prior coming here, right? Or at least online parts, that is
Well, onto the next problem. My 2009 Motorola Droid has Android 2.2, and I wish to install Cyanogenmod 7. However when I tried, it installed but then kept reloading the cyanogen boot animation over and over! Any ideas why this could be, am I forgetting anything, do I need root? Thanks!
CyanogenMod comes pre-rooted (at least the recent versions, I dunno for 7) but you don't need root, that's just a convenience. I can't really help you like this, there are many reasons why it could bootloop.
Nope, last versions aren't rooted. My opo isn't.
My CM device's rooted, but maybe it depends on the device build
Aww okay so I dunno why it's boot looping :/
Because something went wrong in the process and the ROM can't boot. Have you tried plugging it to an adb to see if you can read the logs?
Did you flash boot.img? thats the mistake i made (and the fist time i tried to flash an OS is flashed something for a Maximus HD on my One S ;D)
Not sure how I would read logs if I plugged it into adb. Maybe you could give me steps? I restored the old OS but can reflash cyanogen if it helps.
I flashed a zip selecting "Install zip from SD card".
The boot.img can be found in the zip or your OS. You need to flash it via fastboot.exe via "fastboot flash boot boot.img" (where boot.img is the location of boot.img ofcourse). I'm not sure though, because i've read somewhere that TWRP / CWM now automatically flash boot.img. It's worth a double check though :)

Because you have a stock rom. Google doesn't allow manufacturers to root their devices out of the box.

Try to run adb logcat with the device plugged in.
