Kinda specific topic title, but there's a few of them I'm looking for. One is based on a Japanese manga, the other on a French comic. Both things you can't go wrong, else the fans would be disappointed.

Warning: topic may contain heavily opinionated and/or NSFW content.

Ghost in the Shell

Warning: may contain naked Scarlett Johansson being badass. Well, some say it's cultural appropriation and/or whitewashing, but I call bullc. This looks pretty good so far, and I don't care, the Japanese don't care either if it's a white person being cast as a Japanese if it's the best they can get. And looks like it is. Seems they also took extra care to make it faithful to the manga/anime, just look at the comparaison. (Again, warning, may contain NSFW.)

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets

Written and directed by Luc Besson. I tell you, you can't go wrong with Luc Besson, who also wrote The Fifth Element. Also Lucy, which starred Scarlett Johansson, talking about her. Well, this one also looks pretty good and I'm looking forward to it.

I've never read or watched either of them, but yeah, looks pretty good.

Ghost in the Shell... now that's a name I haven't heard of in a very long time. My bro might appreciate the news, since he owns a few of the movies.

By the way, they were supposed to remake Akira as live-action movie but it has been in development hell since 2006 or so. I wonder if it will ever come to fruition...

btw about movies based on animes: Avatar the last airbender really sucked, it was almost as bad as the Eragon movie. Can't recommend watching it... Better just stick to the anime series  :ninja:

Is it as bad as The Dalton live action or DBZ Evolution?

I don't know those two :/
but just like in Eragon, they completely changed main parts of the story:

series:
regular firebenders create small fireballs
strong firebenders create big fireballs
fighters that learned from the dragons themselves create huuge fireballs

movie (that sucks):
regular firebenders CONTROL small fireballs
strong firebenders CONTROL big fireballs
fighters that learned from the dragons themselves CREAE fireballs
*It's impossible for fire benders to *create* fire out of nothing - they have to carry burning torches... <_<

IIRC, Dragon Ball Evolution had the same problem as Eragon with the story being changed, but also it was broken and flawed IIRC. As for the Lucky Luke Dalton live-action, it was meant to be a comedy like the comic and cartoon series, but it was not even funny if we compare, and also had several story flaws. I mean, yes it is kinda funny at times, but nowhere as close to the main cartoons. I think the lack of originality was the problem. Garfield live-action/CGI movies had the same problem but the first was not as bad. The Asterix live-action movies were not as good as the comic movies but they were not bad either at least.

Which reminds me, wasn't there supposed to be a Captain Harlock/Albator or Grendizer/Goldorak live-action movie in the near future?

dont know about those...

but generally I think it's a total no-go to change parts about the world/story if there's more than one part to the story...
for example eragon 1 was turned into a movie with changes - and made it impossible to turn the second book (or third or fourth) into a movie)... :/
it's the worst thing you can ever do when producing a movie
