The graphics chip of my main Notebook died yesterday. It does still boot but there is no video on VGA, HDMI nor the LCD.
I guess I have to buy another Notebook even though I can't afford a new one right now [emoji20]

The Notebook was already in repair for a dead LCD. I don't want another repair. BTW. the GPU is soldered to the mainboard. It is not replaceavle sadly :(
Oh that sucks :/ last year when i got my pc, after a few weeks my mobo died.
I had to send it back and the cers took like 6 weeks to repair it >:(

BTW. I was looking into the problem and I think the GPU is thermally damages.
LCD shows picture for half a second without backlit and VGA line gets VSync signal but no data, HDMI is fully dead.
There is no visible inverter anywhere on the LCD or in the case.

My dad had the same problem with his old laptop. Thermal damage, picture was all colored stripes on the LCD and outputs. It was a known issue from nvidia so dell replaced the motherboard under warranty.

IMHO you should get a desktop PC if you don't absolutely need the mobility of a laptop/notebook. Laptops and notebooks break after 2 years if you use them regularly, especially the hard drive, battery or screen, and it costs much more to repair it than buying a new one.
Regardless of what you choose, don't get your notebook repaired a second time. You're better off buying a brand new computer, even if a lower end one (it's unlikely to be lower end if your notebook is old).
Toshiba satellite with amd onboard and an a8 2ghz. Works great for me we got an open box deal of < $300.

I do actually have two modern desktop PCs.
But I need the mobility of a notebook and one of my desktops is so horribly slow.
I already gutted out the laptop and gave the case to my little sister so that she can pretend to have a real laptop.
I would like to have something with 6 or 8GB of ram and something like an Intel i3 or i5.
I am willing to pay a maximum of 400€.
I saw a nice Lenovo notebook with that specs in this price.
Any other suggestions?

While their stuff is usually good, I heard that in Feb 2015 they tried bundling malware (Superfish) on their laptops and often heard horror stories about their customer service when people bought laptops on their website and people who would never receive the actual item after paying (due to their bad tracking system. But again that's common I think). Make sure that your laptop wasn't manufactured around when Superfish was a thing and preferably buy the computer from a different store.
I was saying that hardware-wise. Of course you should clean up or even format the system as soon as you open the box, as with any windoge oem pc.

CPU is a pentium. These are much lower specced than an i3 and also the igp won't be able to handle more than the window manager.

Oh. Well you may have problems getting a key then. Do you own an OEM windows? (iirc you can ask the manufacturer even if you already destroyed all traces of windows from the hdd)
Yeah i have an old laptop that came with windows oem. I read somewhere though that you can't use that key to activate windows somewhere else :/
EDIT: i have 2 actually. The one on my old laptop doesn't say OEM, but it also says starer edition. I don't know if that matters?

People have said that you can just type in the key and it'll automatically unregister the old one but I'd go for safety first. Just extract the product key and reload the ISO but make sure you get the same version of windows. They're hiding around the web and maybe even on your computer if you're lucky. Try digging around in the advanced boot menu and bios of those computers. Also you can use your key on a different computer too.

The laptop from which i want to use it has a faulthy HDD so i can't even remove it :P also where do i need to enter the code? smlgr?
Also i seem to not have slmgr.vbs in my system32/SysWOW64... i found a few copies on some other locations though
:'( faulty hdd might prevent you from getting the product key without talking to the OEM people. Does it at least get to the OS menu? Also the windows ISO will prompt for a product key.
Edit. If you're talking about to get the ISO its hidden around the interwebs. Pretty easy to find just make sure it hasn't been tampered with.
I have windows installed, but i used some tool to acivate it some time ago :/

I indeed have no legal windows. I want to have legal though but i'm not really prepaired to spend a few hundred €, so if i can use an old key it'd be amazing. So i want to activate it with the other key, but it i enter it, i get some weird error. It might be because its a windows 7 starter key.
Sounds weird. Do you have the windows 7 starter version ISO? (Is that even a thing?)
If you're still having trouble buy a key off eBay if its legal in your country.

nah, my PC has 7 ultimate IIRC.
If I were you I'd try to find a universal ISO (they actually make them). That way you can try to eliminate it being inconsistency between the key and the validator.

Yeah it does but if you have a cracked version of windows that is the wrong version for your key it will require you to reinstall the right version.
So you do need he same version the key is for? :P
