So, now there are a whole bunch of awesome tools you can use to model and create 3D printed stuff.
Autodesk 123D provides a whole lot of these services.

Check them out here: http://www.123dapp.com/

But I'm trying to use 123D Catch, which generates 3D models from a collection of 2D pictures, to create a 3D :walrii: . So far, it hasn't been able to work. Anyone want to try it with these three pictures?

Since 123D Catch is meant for creating 3D models from real-world objects, I really doubt that you could ever get it to work with hand-made sprites, especially since the result usually isn't that great already for real objects that (obviously) are entirely correct when it comes to shading and perspective.

I think this would definitively be difficult for sprites indeed. I tried finding such tool myself, to no avail. It's probably missing too much data to work with.

A 3D :walrii: would look cute, though.

Image processing software currently doesn't even come close to what the human brain can in terms of possibilities and quality, so generally if something like that is hard to do for you, it's nearly impossible to get a computer to do it.

What if, for example, someone made the frames above, but in alpha channel mode? So for example he would make the sides that needs relief lighter and the rest darker. But again, doing those frames could probably be more effort than just making the 3D voxel sprite from scratch.

Also I think a 3D voxel walrus would look better if rendered by a 3D voxel software that does advanced shading. Else it can be hard to distinguish parts.

Pretty cool they're releasing this stuff, i remember autocad being pretty expensive. This probably has less features though

Oh, okay. Guess I'll just try to find a Voxel Art tool I can use on my computer that can work with Open GL 1.1. :P

I am sure there are some, considering voxel stuff isn't that demanding (after all, there's a voxel demo for the TI-89)

I've looked and found none so far. :(

That sucks. Software makers tend to not have older computers in mind it seems :/

I think you should instead try to get a new computer, because I am sure that people making softwares would just tell you to upgrade to a newer computer.

The only computer I'll be getting(if at all) will be that Lenovo Thinkpad x61s.  <_<

123D is what I use for designing parts fro my 3D printer. But for more complex stuff (possibly a non pixilly walrii) I would make it up in blender
