After several weeks of development, First Fantasy: Mana Force is finally complete! You can download it here: First Fantasy: Mana Force (https://codewalr.us/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=375.0;attach=527). If you used version 1.0, then delete prgmMFSB, MFSB2, MFSB3, MFCH and MFBM, because all sub-programs were renamed to shorter names in 1.0.1.
First Fantasy is one of the first RPG ever released for the TI-84 Plus C Silver Edition and the first ever one for the TI-84 Plus CE and TI-83 Premium CE! The CSE version uses Doors CSE 8.1 libraries to enhance TI-BASIC language, while the CE version uses CE Textlib and a custom font. This very loose remake of Mana Force for the 83+ brings enhanced graphics, new magic spells and enemies, new cutscenes, expanded storyline and many new challenges. There are 16 magic spells available, 7 character classes, 49 monsters and several hours of gameplay. If you are a fan of Square-Enix Japanese role-playing games such as Final Fantasy, then you should try it!
If you aren't convinced yet, there is an outdated video (https://youtube.com/watch?v=-OtQg7tCpXk) on Youtube showing the CSE game in action (the CE version looks similar, but misses the HUD and has fewer colors), as well as the project sub-forum (http://codewalr.us/index.php?board=25.0), which has a very large screenshot thread (http://codewalr.us/index.php?topic=254) showing the evolution of the game.
Enjoy one of the first JRPG for TI's color Z80 and eZ80 calculator models and my first major RPG release since 2008! :D

Sweet!
Wonderful work DJ!
Downloading immediately.
Just beware, it's pretty hard compared to the original (especially that the original was designed for the entry-level RPG player just like Mystic Quest on the SNES). :P While enemies take much less time to be defeated, they also cause more damage, so keep an eye on your HP. ;)
I need COMPUTER. now.
EDIT: I am now on a computer... That collage is a amAzInG!
O.O I would never ignore the readme!
EDIT 2: -No walruses were harmed during the making of this game.
There are people who read readmes? O.O
Joking aside, thanks lol. I did a collage in a similar fashion as how me and Hitoshi released our respective RPGs back in the days. The ticalc page will have animated screenshots but I kinda like making those montages too :P
Amazing! Good work Dj :D
Too bad i don't have a CSE <_<

Yeah, since I'm a kid I loved to read the instrction handbook or Readme. I usually like to give them a pretty formatting to appeal the reader.
Real men don't use handbooks and readme's!
They look it up on the internet

And what the Internet replies to real men : RTFM. And end of offtopic, please.
That said, regarding the readme, I might need to update it later to specify that to quit the game, you must press ON. :P
Nice! Looking forward to downloading and playing, as I just saw this.
DJ, can't you do an update to add a "when I press CLear I quit"?
Do you mean making Clear quit the game?
EDIT: Also file was updated, fixing memory problems, but remove old files from your calc before re-installing (keep your save files of course!)
Yess! I was having trouble with that ALL DAY... :)
Save files are the lists right?

Yes, that was I meant

Neat, memory leaks are the nasty one, aren't they? Ti porgramming system seems unstable with memory too.
That quite looks really weird. But i think a clear quite would be quite hard (well, i don't know the game code flow so i can't say for sure :P)
Nah there was no memory leak. Just that the RAM requirements were extremely high.
Clear quit wouldn't be that hard yo implement but since the key is so close to arrows, it could be pressed by accident like when coding, meaning I would have to implement confirming too. Not sure if using extra space for that is justified when ON can do it just fine like in most other games.
If you do make clear to exit I would put a confirm dialogue to make sure that people don't accidentally press it instead of the arrow keys ( it happens to me a lot ).
Make the quit key 5 or ENTER or something randon like that. Oooo I know, the cos( key!
Not so sure about that. People will forget easily because the most common keys to quit are ON, Clear, Del, Mode and on the Nspire Q or R. Even with the latter, people forget easily so they quit Nspire games by pressing the reset button on the back of the calc or by removing the battery.
One idea I had in mind was to make it the CLEAR key, but have a new options menu where you have to enable that quit feature.
Good job DJ :D
I'm going to download and read the readme now
but,but you need to ignore it!
That reminds me, in the new readme I forgot to mention how much RAM you should have, but it still says you need all of it. However, the requirements are much lower now. Just make sure to not have like 100 archived files.
By the way
@Unicorn did version 1.0.1 fix your memory problems during gameplay?
I coudn't get to a computer last night. To much HW. :(
Aaah ok. Hopefully you can get through your homework without too much hassle.
Yeh, well after much anticipation, I left my calc at school. I mean, who does that anymoar? :w00t: >:(
I am in teh clouds.
I hope your school year isn't finished, resulting in no calc until september O.O
Break in, i'd say. No calc left behind
Indeed! I'm going bak to school today, so the calc will only have a 12 hour stay. It doesn't need to pay for room and board. :P

THat's totally like me. Holidays? Vacations? Better bring all the calcs and battery chargers.
Everytime. When i went to paris last week i had my calc with me. People from my school were like "why'd you bring your calculator?" and
i was like "what if i need to play 96x64 rickroll to save my life?"
Did your friends know what a rickroll is, though? :P
Ofcourse, we're all using the internet nowadays :P
I was asking because until 2012 or so, nobody in Quebec knew what a computer was. Everyone seemed to care only about girls, car engines, partying and sex. <_< Then all of a sudden we started having Quebec meme/fail pages (although rickroll was way earlier so most people don't know it).
Wow that must be pretty weird, almost like some sort of people who are still in the 80s :P
Not necessarily, but they basically didn't care about technology and video games :P
Don't care about technology? D: Do this means that until 2012 they were using mooses as transport?
or hunsky sleighs

Nah, considering all they cared about besides party stuff were cars. :P More like they didn't care about internet matters and video games (except maybe Call of Duty and the like)
DJ, the memory issues are fixed for me! (trying put this thread back on topic)
Awesome to hear :D.
Small update: A bug preventing you from dying was fixed in the CSE version of the game. That bug was noticed while I was testing the CE port, in which it was fixed before release, but I didn't fix it in the CSE remake until now. Basically, after the Game Over screen, the ending would occur.
I have tp be the bearer of bad news... I downloaded the game and textlib, but when I enter the Cave of the Unknown and walk around and get jumped by a monster, an error shows up. When I press GO TO it leads me to MF(I Think)
Please fix this because it makeds the game less playable.
Thanks,
Araidia
Hiya and welcome to the forums, what error do you get? It's definitively something I need to check out.
Well, I sorta reset my calculator out of frustration when i "tried' to fix the program when I got the error... :D (I"m such a noobcake lol)
I'll re-download FFMANA and all the things included again and do a deeper diagnosis when I arrive at my house (my school didn't block this site yay) It will be around 3 PM Central Time when I arrive home. Cya later Omnimaga.
No problem. I'll give the program another try, though, to see if I can reproduce anything odd.
Also it's DJ Omnimaga (or DJ_O), not Omnimaga. :)
Took some pictures using the screen capture in TI Connect CE:
This is the error message that happens when I get jumped by a monster in the Cave of the Unknown
When I press "Goto" it leads me to here:
The one it leads me to is the Output(1n,1,sub("Fighter Mage Wizard etc...
I don't know anything about what's wrong with it, so yea...
Hope this helps a bit, DJ Omnimaga
Looks like a domain or dim error. I'll have to investigate
EDIT:
@Araidia could you tell me which calculator model and OS are you using, which linking software you used and where you downloaded your game copy? Because I am unable to reproduce the error. When I do a fresh reset then re-install the game, I do not get any error when running into enemies in Cave of the Unknown.
Could the file have been corrupted during transfer? Or could it be the italic n variable that doesn't work in certain modes or on certain calc models?
I guess I have the stock OS since I got the ti84 plus ce on Monday through amazon... Were there any OS updates since the TI84+ CE came out? That might be my problem :D
Nah the game runs on all available OSes so far. And I got the same model. Could you try reseting your RAM then resending the game?
EDIT:
@Araidia I think I found the problem. When you started the game, did you use the New Game option with F3? Because if you start from Save 1 or 2 with F1/F2, it will cause this error in both battles and the in-game menu. You have to save your game before loading from Save 1 or 2.
Ohhhhhhhhh... I didn't save it after hitting f3.
It works now, thanks for all the help!
Sorry for the inconvience :w00t:
Awesome and no problem. :)
it looks like I have reached 10 featured ticalc.org files over the years accross the three author profiles I had at one point (the first lasted 2003-2008, the second 2010-2011 and the last one 2013-present) or another in time, because ticalc just featured Final Fantasy: Mana Force:
-Zelda: Dark Link Quest (2004) http://www.ticalc.org/archives/news/articles/11/119/119577.html
-The Reign of Legends 3 (2004) http://www.ticalc.org/archives/news/articles/11/119/119577.html
-Reuben Quest: Ev Awakening (2004) http://www.ticalc.org/archives/news/articles/12/122/122186.html
-Reuben Quest: The Lost Mirror (2005) http://www.ticalc.org/archives/news/articles/12/124/124432.html
-xLIB xLIB Revolution (2005) http://www.ticalc.org/archives/news/articles/13/131/131953.html
-Metroid II: Evolution (2006) http://www.ticalc.org/archives/news/articles/13/139/139347.html
-Illusiat TI-81 Remake (2010) http://www.ticalc.org/archives/news/articles/14/146/146343.html
-Illusiat complete collection (2013) http://www.ticalc.org/archives/news/articles/14/148/148382.html
-Supersonic Ball (2013) http://www.ticalc.org/archives/news/articles/14/148/148436.html
-First Fantasy: Mana Force (2015) http://www.ticalc.org/archives/news/articles/14/148/148795.html
Super Mario Smash Dance was also featured in 2006 on http://www.calcg.org and First Fantasy made TI-Planet front page last month or so. Note that on the 3rd profile I grouped most of my old games together. As a result, Illusiat 81 ended up being featured twice, in some ways.
I am happy to announce that version 2.0 of First Fantasy: Mana Force for the TI-83 Premium CE and TI-84 Plus CE, compatible with OS 5.4 or below, has been released!
As of now the file hasn't been updated on Cemetech and Ticalc, but the new version, featuring the new UI and full-screen graphics, is now available on TI-Planet: https://tiplanet.org/forum/archives_voir.php?id=185757
Make sure to not upgrade your TI-83 Premium CE or TI-84 Plus CE to OS 5.5 or 5.5.1. This game uses ASM/C libraries by DrDnar and the new TI OS removes ASM/C support.
:walrii:
Version 3.1 is now released, with the following updates:
-The game launcher now has an icon in shells like the C Silver Edition version did.
-Save files are now archived after being edited, for protection against RAM clears.
-If a save file is empty when loaded, then a new game is now launched instead.
-The error that rarely happens upon exiting the game from the status menu might have been fixed, but it is not 100% sure yet.
https://tiplanet.org/forum/archives_voir.php?id=185757
The Cemetech and Ticalc copies should be approved in the next hours/days. Keep in mind that the TI-84 Plus C Silver Edition version of First Fantasy is no longer updated since 2015, so all the 2020-21 changes only apply to CE models.
Major update with version 4.0 release!
-Four bonus dungeons added via an entirely new quest unlocked at the end of the original

-Title screen copyright layout changed and reduced in size
-In-game controls that are displayed on-screen now shows up as button icons for better readability.
-Fixed save loading bug introduced in 3.1.
-Some dungeon colors and graphics changed.
-If a second quest is started after beating the game, a star now appears besides the save file on the title screen.
-The last error mentioned in the previous version changes might have finally been fixed once and for all.
