Runescape 3
Yes, this game still exists. in fact they recently released a whole new client.
Runescape first was coded in java but now in c++.
I was wondering if anyone on here currently plays it, if you do let me know we might can play together ;-)

This was my account but it got hacked, now i started over and i'm racing to max with my cousin (Kevin)
I don't, but I could probably make an account :)
There was a Runescape 2? O.O

yeah, now we have runescape classic, runescape 3 and oldschool runescape
EDIT (DJ Omnimaga): Merged double-post
Ah ok. This is konda confusing. I thought it was still the first game all along, but with updated graphics and new maps/items/etc. By the way, don't get addicted to MMORPGs. <.<

why not? :P runescape is the only game i actually play
I mean, there are people who literally disappeared from the real world by being addicted to it. They stopped any online and offline interaction they had, ruined their school grades and stuff like that. Playing it a lot is fine but we still want to see you around :P

hehe yeah i understand :P , i just play it because i like it, not because i want to be in the top 10 or so :P
Eh, it's probably been 10 years I played. Didn't particularly liked it.
Some people disliked Runescape because the graphics were several years behind in technology. In 2003 they were even worse than Nintendo 64 graphics and even years later when they got updated they were still behind compared to other MMORPGs. That said, graphics don't necessarily make a good game alone. There are probably people who just didn't like the style or got bored after a while, like with WoW.

Eh, RS3 is pretty nice. One of the reasons why RS has such a huge following though, is that the system requirements are very low. Almost everyone can play it and pre-teens don't really care about graphics quality that much :P

That is me with World of Tanks :P except I am still doing well in school xD
There are people who died after playing WoW for 19-72 hours straight. They were so addicted that they would not even stop playing to drink, eat nor rest. O.O

Isn't RS web-based, though? I mean, I noticed that many web-based games, especially those written in emscripten, javascript or whatever, tend to eat up a lot of resources depending of which web browser your use. Opossum Massage Simulator, for example, takes 15% of my quad-core Intel i7 CPU and makes my CPU fan spin at max speed when I play for over 2 minutes in the CodeWalrus arcade, and that's a 2D game.

RuneSpace used to be all in Java (and it still is unless you're using the downloadable client). That was a lot faster than JavaScript, especially back in the past when JavaScript wasn't as optimized as it is on modern browsers. Of course, it had downsides like requiring a browser plugin, but there weren't really any other ways to run complex games in browsers back then.
Oh, I thought it was in JS and PHP or something like that.
They used to be working on an HTML5 javascript-based client, but it never got out of beta.
I see. Was it officially cancelled?
From the Runescape Wiki: (http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/HTML5_client)
Quote from: Mod Philip
HTML5 is available to play now - we are unlikely to make any significant changes to it in the future, as the underlying technology is not really fast enough for our player base to have a good experience in it. It is still supported though, and is being used as a basis for some work on other client technology which should turn out a lot better (but we are not sure when it will be ready yet).
So it looks like they basically stopped developping that client and are purely working on the C++ client now (since Runescape does almost everything server-side, clients are rarely updated once they are completed and can keep working without updates for a long time)(which I learned from programming parts of a cracked Runescape private server)
Ah I see then. I guess it's good that it still works, though :)

Man, that screenshot hit me with a wave of nostalgia for Gothica 3. Too bad Gothica 3 fails miserably at running in Windows 7, even in compatibility mode.
Yeah it's a shame that older games will sometimes fail to run on newer OSes even with compatibility mode enabled. In some other cases, I ran into softwares that only ran on a few graphic card. For example, Kohan: Immortal Sovereing from 2001 did not run on any computer I ever tried installing the game on. I'm glad that some games are updated in remastered form, like T4C or Runescape.
its weird that low graphics laggs out my PC but when i set them on ULTRA it becomes smoother, logic

Maybe when it's on ULTRA it sets a higher priority? I'm not sure, it's just a guess.
Oh god, I haven't played this in ages. Last time I logged in was maybe 2 years ago? I played back in 2007-2008. It was awesome. I don't particularly like RS3 though.

I agree that was when video games were cooler to me than they are now... (when I didn't know how they worked :P)

Lol, my dad plays this whenever my mom, brother, and I leave to go see family.
you guys remember Zezima?
Because of this thread I downloaded and installed RuneScape. Not sure if it's the 3rd one, it's just the one I found on the RuneScape website.
Finally, a game my PC can handle!
I'm loving it. Losing my life to it. Goodbye real life.
Oh boy, someone's been sucked to the other side. :P

Weird. But this reminds me how Starcraft: Brood War seems less smooth on this PC than Starcraft II did. Maybe the low graphics are rendered by a different engine that newer computer OSes or video cards can't handle?
And guys, don't get addicted to Run Escape too much. :P

just bought another account for like €70 , you really dont want to know how much money ive put in this game :P
Couldn't you have continued on the old account? Or did you 100% the entire game?

like i said it was hacked, now i just use that account for PVM and i sell the loot for ingame coins and the ingame coins i sell for real life money, i have another account which im selling for €150
Oh right, I forgot about the hacking part. This is common with popular MMORPGs >.< (when I got a free trial of World of Warcraft (when I bought Diablo III) my account was hacked within less than 24 hours)

oh thats unfortunate :/ , back in the days people were getting hacked on runescape with total of 50B+ , and 1B = €1000 , so yeah ....
Yeah, the thing is that hackers or perhaps their bots are monitoring existing accounts non-stop and probably bruteforcing passwords or exploiting security exploits, so that they can re-use the accounts to spam other players with ads or resell accounts that are far enough into the game with high levels and stuff.

That sounds like the low graphics don't use HW accelerated rendering.

yeah, i can run the c++ client smoothly but the java client laggs alot
Yeah, this is what I am guessing, although I doubt it has something to do with the C++ vs Java client. Or do you mean that you can only use the low graphics in the Java client and not the C++ one? But yeah old game graphics are often not made to use new graphic card technologies. It's strange if there is such disparate performance within one single game software, though. I guess that rather than replacing the old graphics engine they added an HQ one side by side and kept the old one intact.

yeah the java client is lagging on low graphics, but all java games seem to run badly on my PC
Hm I see. Have you tried on a different PC with similar specs or a VM?
