Title: pimath's music topic
Post by: pimathbrainiac on July 31, 2015, 06:47:11 PM
So I'm putting all my stuff from now on in one topic.

https://soundcloud.com/pimathbrainiac/illusions-of-grandeur-wip
https://soundcloud.com/pimathbrainiac/illusions-of-grandeur-rev-2
A more fleshed out version of "An Unquiet Mind," which I posted in its own topic earlier. Still not done.

Good idea. Make sure to add all your recent creations to the first post too as you release them, though. Also I'll listen soon. The Unquiet Mind was quite great :D

yet another revision.

Oh nice, I liked that song. :D

I think the only real issue at this point is that the drums are not loud enough compared to the rest of the instruments, because everything else seems balanced pretty well.

Well, I made a few things since August.
Mainly A percussion piece (https://soundcloud.com/pimathbrainiac/shattered-glass) (which will be performed in May by one of the groups I perform with)
And a rock piece (http://1drv.ms/1Nf6oyL)
I also did some debauchery of timeless jazz (https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_rRGhX27sY-VkxzdU51c3psQk0/view?usp=sharing)
original:

Feedback welcome and appreciated!

Nice music :D
I sould try to make my own sometime :P Also, why does that one post have -2 karma ??? At first i thought it was a rickroll, but the linked page sounds nice :)

That would be because that was my last post before the incident in August. Understandable.

Ohh. Seems a bit unfair. IMHO, the karma tracker is for tracking karma of posts, and sould not fall to bias based on the user <_<

It's fine since it was down voted in August. I don't mind, since I deserved it somewhere.

I think the downvotes were for the site incident, not the post itself nor the user. Not that I encourage using the voting system in that manner since downvoting is called "Flag as abusive" for a reason (to downvote posts you think that are out of line), but since it was one of his last post before the ban (none of which were about the incident), people just used that way to downvote the incident. I should perhaps enable "reasons for voting", but I am not fond of the idea of forcing people to give a reason why they give thumbs ups/likes to a post.

Anyway on the topic if your music, I didn't have time to listen to your most recent stuff but I still listen to Resonance Mallets and The Unquiet Mind regularly (although the latter is more because it always appears randomly in my Soundcloud when I listen to music there. BUt I let it play since I enjoy it)

I also just discovered Crossing Field Mallets, which I like. I'll listen to your newer song later.

Thanks for the listens! Resonance and Crossing Field are both arrangements (but I think you already knew that) that I'm personally very happy with how they turned out. I actually have some stuff I need to do with Illusions/Unquiet to finish it, since the end is a bit half-baked. I need to upload another thing I did to soundcloud, now that I think about it. I wrote a short lyrical band piece that I haven't shared yet called "Night." I'll post a link once I upload.

EDIT: here it is! (https://soundcloud.com/pimathbrainiac/night)

I removed these downvotes since they were obviously abusive. There is another unlogged one which I should probably remove as well. Please don't use the voting system this way, downvoting should be based on quality rather than opinion.

I'll check your stuff out later today (listening to Dream Theater right now :P).

Not hard/heavy enough
Well, if i where you, i would remove the synthetic chorus 'ahh's and make the outro less sudden ;)
But yea, not my style of 'rock' :P

I wouldn't say that Night is rock if that's what you are refering to, since there's no guitar in it. But I like how it sounds like so far :)

Ah ok. I missed that one because I almost exclusively paid attention to your Soundcloud and I thought you refered to the last song.

Anyway now that sounds more like rock, and old one at that. I actually like the idea so far. I think the drums and guitars should be louder compared to the rest of the instruments, though. During loud parts we barely hear them. Nice work so far, though :)

@pimathbrainiac I'M quite late but I finally listened to your last song, as well as El Bianco (which I don't remember hearing before, or at least not in its entirety) and I love them both. :) Also that last classical song reminds me a bit of some Playstation 1 Final Fantasy music :)

Anyways I'm working on another instrumental rock piece atm. Take a listen: https://soundcloud.com/pimathbrainiac/untitled1-rev-2/s-pem2u

@pimathbrainiac I can't access the song. It says "This song is private" D:

EDIT: Wait nevermind, for some reasons the page scrolled down before it finished loading. Listening now

EDIT: Beginning is awesome and then it gets better as it progress :). My suggestion would be to make the percussion louder (about three timees louder maybe if you're going for a chill song, or less otherwise) or make everything else less loud depending of if the volume is already maxed out. The snare should not be increased as much as the other percussion, though, since it's already louder than the other percussion. Anyway good job so far :3=

For most of the instruments, I'm using Kontakt 5 player and a free sound pack called "Format Factory." The acoustic piano is the VST that comes with the full version of Finale.

hey @pimathbrainiac, I know this is a lot to ask about, but would you be willing to create some nice piano music for my walrus game? I really love your last song  O.O
*everything for free, no ingame realmoney stuff, opensource, lots of people in the credits, lots of walruses in it ^^
I'd need just some chilling piano background music fitting to a sunny summer day (rather slow but not that dark) ^^
It should fit to that atmosphere: http://codewalr.us/1602/47602
it'd be really great if you could help me with this :) But of cause i'd also understand if you dont have the time/motivation for it ^^

It's pretty good, and imo, easier than cubase (which I used briefly at one point). Don't know about comparisons to FL or Pro Tools though.

@pimathbrainiac by the way, why do we need to login to our Microsoft Live account in order to download your Funk song? You should upload on Soundcloud or somewhere else where we don't need an account so that more people will listen D:

Anyway I listened to the Funk song and it oddly reminds me of Bfr's music (some former Omni user from 2006-08). I like it although my favorites still remain the mallet songs and maybe the rock ones. :P

Also glad you got Ableton live and could master it. I heard that it was definitively easier to learn than FL Studios and especially Cubase. Good luck :) Hopefully you can find some free VST plugins or instrument packs to make some songs of your current styles.

You used to not have to login through microsoft to access public onedrive files. I'll put it on soundcloud when I'm done working on it.

Also thanks! I wouldn't say I've "mastered" Ableton by any means (I'm just starting), but thanks for the compliment! As for VSTs, I already have some that I'm going to be using.

/me stabs Micro$oft

And yeah I understand. That said, one of the main issue about those high-end softwares was often about how hard it was to find public domain or freeware VST plugins without watermarks (eg no annoying static in the background) or when a software uses a proprietary VST plugin that can't be located anywhere on the computer nor Google, so you can't use it outside said software. Revolta plugin for Magix Music Maker 14/2008 was awesome but had this problem.

As a result, in all of my PC songs, I ended up importing MTV Music Generator sounds as wav files.

Hm I didn't notice this before @pimathbrainiac , my bad x.x

Anyway that rap beat is good, especially with the melody. I am curious what could be rapped with it :P. Only one issue, though, is that  the main melody channel seems a bit too loud at times, which gets apparent during the second half of the song.

Also you should do a remix of it without the rap percussions. It would fit very well as an ambient track as well I think.

Also that metal song is not bad. It definitively has the typical heavy metal style at the beginning. Did you use real guitar or some VST plugin? Because the guitar sounds very realistic

The idea was more along the line of hiphop/acid jazz instead of rap. I don't think I'm going to do anything more with it though, since I've lost interest in that track in the time since I've posted it.

It's a VST Running its audio through Guitar Rig, which is a virtual amp. It makes it sound a whole lot more real.

They both are free versions of paid ones by Native Instruments. You can get them from the NI Website.

The VST is Kontakt Player (Using the free Factory Selection library). The Virtual Amp is Guitar Rig free.

Ah that's good. My issue is that sometimes people provide a shareware software, but you can't even do anything in the trial version (for example, you can only use it in audio projects that are 30 seconds or shorter, preventing their use in any full lenght song, or sometimes you hear a hiss sound during playback
