Starting
Monday, this is when, in the calculator community, you will start seeing signs that CodeWalrus exists. Since this week began, some of our staff members have started using the tagline "Remember the day the walrus started to fly..." in their forum signatures on other forums and my Bandcamp music store (https://djomnimaga.bandcamp.com/) was redesigned to fit the site theme. On
December 1st 2014, as forum avatars, it's Walrii that you will start seeing appear:
On
December 7th, it's this signature that will start appearing publicly (on that day, we could almost talk of "
Black Sunday" because of the story behind CodeWalr.us and by then, it will probably become clear to some people that something's up):
QuoteRemember, the 24th of October...
Then on
December 13th, the following avatar and signature, where the banner will start leading to the actual splash screen URL, http://codewalr.us/ , will replace the above:
QuoteRemember the 24th of October, the day the walrus started to fly...
(http://codewalr.us/other/codewalrus2small.png) (http://codewalr.us)
By
December 19th, people will probably have already figured out, but this is around when we will blatantly start saying that a new calculator forum has been running since October, but that it's invite-only until New Year 2015. The splash screen (http://codewalr.us/walrii.php) will be gone and the site domain name will lead to the forums directly (although still not open to public).
QuoteComing soon: January 1st 2015
(http://codewalr.us/other/codewalrus2small.png) (http://codewalr.us)
Around
December 24th, the following signature will start being used instead, fully unveiling what the site is about:
QuoteComing soon: January 1st 2015
(http://codewalr.us/other/codewalrus3small.png) (http://codewalr.us)
Then on
January 1st 2015, in the form of a programming group (for now), a new era will begin...
I think they already are figuring out as you are"DJ Omniwalrus" on IRC..
I doubt it, because my DJ Omniwalrus and DJOWalrii nicks is not in any way linked to this site. It was supposed to be my alt nick for IRCCloud or ZNC, while I use DJ_Omnimaga with other IRC clients. But finally I didn't use other IRC clients that much. It was also as a joke because of Streetwalrus and Turiqwalrus nicks, because one night there were like 7 walrus nicks in #omnimaga (Hooloovoo still uses Hooloowalrus from time to time)
They'll start figuring out that something is up when we start using the signature banner, especially after Walrii the mascot stops standing in front of the dot in the logo .
I think people will have doubts about a new movement when they'll see we all have the same avatar. :P
Make a gift where the walrus move off the dot.
I am not a big fan of using animated signatures. Although I have Reuben being animated, he doesn't move around non-stop. I could make one for people who wants one, but I'm unsure if that will be very useful after the dot is unveiled
Just for one day maybe? Does my signature annoy you?
Nah, I just don't really want my own signature to be too animated. Others are fine if not too intrusive.
Hehe, can't wait to see people wonder what is this codewalrus thing. Any bets on when and who's figuring it out first?
Most likely an Omni admin first :P. The only one who knows that a new site exists is Soru tho, unless he told others. Among users, only Happybobjr knows so far.
If eeems regularly checks access.log he must have seen links to codewalr.us. Since there are multiple users who have walrus in their name who were also involved in the petition he might suspect something.
Did we even link to Omni anywhere here yet ? I know DJ keeps discouraging so idk if there are any links.
I accidentally when copying the herocore topic, but I removed them shortly after.
I myself didn't, but I linked to img.ourl.ca
I have not changed anything in my way of doing things nor linked here. I just copied the HBE message to Omnimaga to sum up my new motives for this project. Should I change my nick for Urist McEiyoLobster or for something like Eiyowalrus? :p
Nah it should be fine.
Lol Eiyeron you don't need to but if you want then go ahead. :P
Well we have a day to go. My question is if an admin asks, what do we tell them? I know this site is not meant to "rival" the others, but how do we make sure they know that?
Just say it's a trend we're starting. :P
I'll probably say secret project at first that we're slowly unveiling. But when the sig banner becomes clickable I think it will really be clear, so at one point we'll have no choice to tell the truth.
It could cause some angryness from the other side, but they can't really afford to give this site even more reasons to exist so I doubt it will be that bad.
We will have to clarify that the site started weeks before the petition, tho.
Yeah, I hope they'll took this not so bad. I don't want flames from hell emerging nor scission between CW and Omni...
Yeah as I said if people do that it will only hurt their chances of success. Which is why I will ignore some of them.
Alright it's time. :D Updating my Omni profile.
5 hours left here on the Eastern Seaboard
*sigh*
I think we agreed on GMT didn't we ?
I don't think so, but I guess that is the initial "you can do this now" time.
Well, more or less 5 hours, it doesn't really matter I think.
Yeah I would have done it earlier if I didn't fall asleep X.X
Time for the big show? We should read from time to time the IRC logs to see if they're talking about it.
Not just yet, but since it's December 1st, we are not starting to use the Walrii avatar. You can say it's Walrii btw.
Also now one challenge will be to get the entire urgent part of the todo list done before Jan 1st (or before holidays in Juju's case since he probably won't have internet afterward until at least the middle of January, unless he visits his grandparents).
Another thing is that now that Walrii is revealed, I'll need to start working on my HP Prime game (since he's the main character). It would be nice to have something from me upon site opening and to promote it (the logo will be in the game).
I'll surely be at my grandparents, and I made them buy a new router yesterday! Because I saw one at the drug store and I was tired of their current one.
If you can do a good version with readble source, I could work on a Prizm version, once my compiler suite is back (I need to recompile GCC for SH3 and SH4).

So routers were finally considered as drug paraphernalia due to the potential addicting properties of Internet and are now sold at head shops? O.O
Just kidding I noticed Pharmaprix have been selling electronics for a while, although most are overpriced and outdated. >.< And I'm glad you'll have some wifi.

Of course keep in mind it will use HP PPL and probably lack indenting for the most part, the latter in order to make it readable on-calc. I could make a version with indenting, though.
I'll just need a ref guide and a text version of the source! ^^ The rest could be done (as long as you manage yourself collisions, I don't really want to build myself a collision engine without any reference...)
Ok, although the ref guide for the most part is mostly explaining what power ups and enemies there are, as well as some Walrii behavior and ideas so far.
Also most tiles are generated using code rather than being pre-rendered material. You are free to use pre-rendered tiles if you want, although that might increase the file size a lot.
My code has some comments, though.
FOr the size I wouldn't really care because two things :
- I can probably port the algorithm to a mallocated buffer (that would be as rad as on your own version, and I could edit palettes independantly from the grahics)
- Bust-a-Move is already 800 KB. Sooooo...
Size will probably depend of how many levels with different tilesets there is. For example, if there are 16 stages and all of them uses different floor/bg tiles then that's a crapload of tiles to store.
That should be a good start for loading levels and tileset
IT'S HAPPENING! (http://www.omnimaga.org/general-discussion/what-is-your-avatar/msg397883/#msg397883)
And you just double-posted <_<
Sorry, it was only to have the time set on the post. That won't happen anymore.
No problem. Just making sure we set the example for new members if they come :P (although double-posting under less than 24 hours is fine if posting a project update)
Wait, this is not a project update ? :P
You raise an excellent point Streetwalrus as you are in the CodeWalrus project but that isn't mine so I'm not allowed to double post.
I would say that for CodeWalrus project in particular, the progress thread where double-posting would be fine for staff is the TODO list thread. :P
So yesterday was Black Sunday, which marked the time where CodeWalrus logo was finally being unveiled in my Omnimaga/Cemetech/TI-Planet/etc sig as well as some other staff's and the beginning of speculation about something fishy going on, and yes walruses like fish. Unfortunately Omnimaga was down for about 30 hours or so so that site had to wait longer.
I hope our host doN,t have such long downtimes >.<
Lol that sunday was black indeed for omni. :P Also it sucks that we were found out already. D:
Not black for Omni but rather the community since the logo appeared literally everywhere that allows sig images.
The massive leak was inevitable, though. I just didn't expect it would happen this way, but blame me for not setting up OneAll Social Plugin properly, and at least it was just a config error, not a bug or something. I also expected backlash from some groups of people, especially that not everyone knows the background story about CodeWalrus, but not some of the one we got earlier.
I still have my two hideouts if it gets too hot outside, though: This forum and my calculator code. :P
I said it was BS for omni cause of the downtime. :P
By the way how many people have figured it out besides the ones who registered ?
Now pretty much anyone who can read the Private Matters as pimath litteraly copy-pasted his topic's OP on Omnimaga.

I don't know but since it's December I don't mind telling the truth behind CW to everyone. I just did it privately so far. For example, even Cooliojazz knows, since I asked him permission to use his Recent Posts mod, but closed-beta registrations are pretty much done at this point.
Welp, we can't go back now, the announcement was made. :P
True, although the avatar/signatures will probably continue updating as planned. It's just that the off-site announcement was posted 5 days earlier than planned to clarify matters.
Btw the Facebook and Twitter pages open to public Saturday. The Bandcamp redesign was completed three days earlier than planned, though (see background).
I like the new bandcamp bg. Let's not rush through the steps indeed. Even though our cover is blown, we don't really need to change the plan. The announcement was posted early in response to the emergency that arose from people figuring us out and starting drama.
Here comes the 2nd (and clickable) signature and avatar.
On Dec 19th, as stated in the news article, the forum login page will start showing up directly from http://codewalr.us/ even when omitting index.php from the URL.
Change of plan:
-Walrii.php redirect will be removed tonight instead of the 19th.
-signature slogan will change to Coming soon: Jan 1st 2015 on December 19th 2014 instead of Dec 24th. The banner will remain intact until christmas eve, though.
-The site banner will say Coming Soon starting tonight.
This is to increase the site visibility earlier.
Apparently it has SRAM and a battery so I guess it does.
Wait what? O.O
Lol I was wondering where that post went. It was supposed to be in the GB flashcart thread. :P
The splash page is now off.
Lol Street that happens I guess. And yeah I saw now that I checked the other topic. It was weird at first. :P
Also thanks juju. :)
Yeah Juju, no more adding /index.php manually most of the time!
I wonder if this could give some less active people some incentive to post more? :P
I know for me it was never an issue because I had it on speed dial (although sometimes when typing the URL I forgot to add it), but for some it might have been an annoyance, especially if they type the URL from their phone.
Idk, for me Firefox remembers that I want the /index.php. :P
In Opera it depends what you type the most. If you kept trying to access without the index.php then the next few times it will still suggest that until you tried to access the URL with the index.php often enough.
Oh wait, something failed on the plan. The 24th the next signature should be used but the current logo already contains these infos.
Well, the site was already announced so it's not really a problem. We're already getting member registrations too. :P

Well I actually changed the signature plans if you read previous posts. The Coming Soon 2015 text will now appear in the signature on the 19th instead of 24th. However, the signature that has the site logo text such as TI-84 Plus, TI-Nspire, etc, will still only appear in signatures on the 24th.
That reminds me, you are also free to talk about the site in public by now on other forums, for example if you talk to someone on IRC and are waiting for a reply to your post on CW, you can say "Hey street can you check my post on CW in the Pokémon thread?". Just don't be obnoxious about it such as advertising the site in every post you make elsewhere or bragging about it (unless of course someone voices his concern about it and it needs defending). Same goes for here really, though.
Oh well, I'm not really going to do this actually. i prefer to cross post like with HBE.
Well in Poekemon and nReuben case they're secret projects so that wouldn't work until the first anyway :P
Yeah. don't you dare talk about Pokemon before we go public. :P It's not even anything yet.
There's not even one sprite nor code yet?? O.O
Street, I should have somewhere the code for the first front 151 sprites, it you need them. (Prizm based but should be easily ported)
Were you planning to make a PRIZM Pokémon Eiyeron?
NOt really, just fiddling with structs and mass sprite conversion. FOr instance, it's been years that these sprites only used up to 16 colors, so a 4-bit palette is enough to contains all the sprites.
Aah ok I was wondering lol. It would be nice if eventually there was a Pokémon game for the PRIZM or a Game Boy emulator.
Well there's a tilemapper draft and a nice build system and some test sprites but that's all. :P
Street: I have an idea. If you switch to nSDL I could work with you and bring a Oriizm version easier with pSDL.
(I still have HBE to do though. The progress are minimal but existant)

What is Oriizm?
Also I wonder how fast a PRIZM tilemapper could be? On the Nspire there are frame rate issues despite the calc running at 150 MHz, and we know the PRIZM runs at 58 MHz but we don't know how its memory bus compares with the Nspire.
PRIZM. IT'S A PRIZM AND I HATE TYPING ON A PHONE.
Ahem. Sorry, yeah it's a Prizm and the calc itself suffers of a slow screen and CPU. But (oh, I see you have the memory problem in mind) it seems that memory speed is not really a problem when you consider the CPU's speed. Bust-A-Move is running midly fine even with the mass of graphisms it has to blit. (But i have to OC it to get it smoother...)
Ah ok. Maybe you could try a barebones 20x14 (16x16 sprites) scrolling tilemapper and see how it runs to ensure smoothscrolling is possible. Bust-a-move definitively ran at decent speed.
Also avoid overclocking your Prizm if possible. It's very dangerous and many Cemetech people bricked their calc that way. IIRC it only happens on OS 2.00 but better be safe than sorry.
I've never had any problems with it and I'm on 2.00 since... I don't remember when but well.
Ah good for you then. But on Cemetech all the people who bricked their PRIZM had them overclocked and it was eventually discovered that the overclocking was the cause. I am unsure if it's related to the fact that certain PRIZM calcs cannot reach 94.3 MHz (some Flash reading errors start happening below that level), but it is suspected that either using RS memory or overclocking was the cause, and one reason to believe that overclocking was the cause is this topic: http://www.cemetech.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7808&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=120
It's possible that this problem only happens on OS 2.00, though, because it seems that all bricked PRIZM calcs were both running OS 2.00 and overclocked at one point or another. At one point, users were even asking Cemetech admins to remove all games that automatically overclocked the calc from Cemetech downloads section for safety reasons.
Bump: That reminds me, I still need to add the HTML/BB codes to the About section of the website and also add code for signatures and useable avatars. Early on I had planned to make it easy for people to promote the site, but I forgot the signature code. It will probably include various images and banner sizes, except the big one won't be listed with a code because I would encourage people to keep their signatures on other sites small. I should try to make an userbar for all groups too.
